Story

I met Mya Shen in Mingun Temple, where she was praying with her family and she had the typical thanaka circular patches on
her cheeks. Thanaka is a yellowish-white cosmetic paste made from ground bark and is a distinctive feature of the culture of
Myanmar. The creamy paste is applied in attractive designs, the most common are circular patches on cheeks and nose. Apart
from cosmetic beauty, thanaka gives also a cooling sensation and protection from sunburn.
